IT/OT Convergence

What is IT/OT Convergence?

IT/OT Convergence is the integration of Information Technology (servers, networks, software) with Operational Technology (PLCs, SCADA, sensors) so data flows seamlessly between business systems and physical operational processes.

Technical Definition: The integration of IT (Information Technology – servers, networks, software) with OT (Operational Technology – PLCs, SCADA, sensors) so data flows seamlessly between business systems and physical processes. IT/OT convergence enables real-time operational data to feed directly into business decisions.

Why it matters: Historically IT and OT operated in separate worlds. Convergence unlocks enormous value: real-time energy data in ERP, maintenance history in CMMS, production KPIs in business dashboards. It also introduces new security challenges that must be addressed.

HubMind’s view: IT/OT convergence is the central challenge of much of our work. We design the integration architecture and security strategy that makes convergence possible without compromising operational reliability.
