What is Virtualisation?

Virtualisation is a technology enabling multiple virtual computers to run on a single physical server through a Hypervisor layer, providing flexibility, redundancy and efficient hardware utilisation for industrial computing infrastructure.

Technical Definition: A technology enabling multiple virtual computers to run on a single physical server. Through a software layer (Hypervisor), the operating system and applications are separated from the physical machine – enabling flexibility, redundancy and more efficient hardware utilisation.

Why it matters: Virtualisation enables industrial computing infrastructure to be managed like modern IT – with high availability, rapid deployment of new services and efficient use of hardware resources.

HubMind’s view: We apply virtualisation to OT infrastructure where appropriate – particularly for SCADA servers and historian databases – while maintaining the strict availability requirements of operational systems.
