What is Open Source?
Open Source software has source code openly available for anyone to examine, modify and distribute – reducing vendor lock-in, enabling community-driven development and often producing higher security through broad peer review.
Software where the source code is openly available for anyone to examine, modify and distribute.
Why it matters: Open-source software powers much of modern digital infrastructure. In building automation and industrial IoT, open-source brokers (Eclipse Mosquitto), analytics platforms and protocol implementations are increasingly replacing proprietary black boxes.
HubMind’s view: We are strong advocates for open-source tools and open standards. We are pragmatic, but when two solutions have comparable capabilities, we consistently favour the open one for its long-term sustainability and freedom from vendor control.
