NIS2

What is NIS2?

NIS2 is a strengthened EU directive imposing cybersecurity requirements on organisations in critical sectors – including energy, water, healthcare and digital infrastructure – with expanded scope and stricter incident reporting compared to NIS1.

Technical Definition: A strengthened EU directive (Network and Information Security Directive 2) imposing cybersecurity requirements on organisations in critical sectors – including energy, water, healthcare, digital infrastructure and transport. NIS2 significantly expands the scope compared to NIS1 and introduces stricter incident reporting requirements.

Why it matters: NIS2 makes OT cybersecurity a legal obligation for large parts of European industry and infrastructure. Non-compliance risks substantial fines and, more importantly, leaves systems vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated attacks.

HubMind’s view: We help clients inventory their systems and build in the security required not just for legal compliance, but to genuinely protect operations. NIS2 is the regulatory push that many organisations needed to take OT security seriously.
