What is IEC 81355?

IEC 81355 introduces ICC (Information Content Classification) – a systematic method for classifying the information content of technical documents, defining what type of information each document contains.

Technical Definition: An international standard that introduces ICC (Information Content Classification) – a systematic way to classify the information content of technical documents. ICC categorises documents by their nature: requirements documents, descriptions, instructions and records.

Why it matters: For large facility projects with hundreds of documents, ICC classification enables systematic quality assurance of the documentation package. Each document type has defined requirements it must meet.

HubMind’s view: We apply IEC 81355 in project documentation to ensure handover packages are both complete and structured in a way the facility team can actually use for day-to-day operations.
