What is HMI?

An HMI (Human-Machine Interface) is the user interface where a human interacts with a machine or control system, ranging from a local touch panel in a plant room to a web-based dashboard providing real-time operational visibility.

Human-Machine Interface

Technical Definition: The user interface where a human interacts with a machine or control system. This ranges from a local touch panel in a plant room to a web-based operational dashboard accessible from anywhere. A good HMI presents complex operational data in an intuitive, actionable format.

Why it matters: A poor HMI hides problems and creates operator errors. A good HMI makes the invisible visible – giving facility technicians the right information at the right moment to act quickly and effectively.

HubMind’s view: We design HMIs around the operator’s actual workflow – not the vendor’s standard template. The goal is not a beautiful screen, but faster and better operational decisions.
