What is DALI?

DALI (IEC 62386) is an internationally standardised protocol for controlling digital lighting, enabling individual control of each luminaire with dimming, scene management and fault reporting.

Digital Addressable Lighting Interface

Technical Definition: An internationally standardised protocol (IEC 62386) for digital lighting control. DALI allows individual control of each luminaire on a circuit, enabling dimming, scenes and status reporting. DALI-2 extends the standard with stricter interoperability requirements between devices from different manufacturers.

Why it matters: DALI makes lighting installations fully controllable and energy-efficient. Each luminaire reports its status – lamp failure, current energy consumption – enabling predictive maintenance without manual inspection rounds.

HubMind’s view: DALI is a key component of energy optimisation. Combined with presence detection and daylight sensors, a DALI installation can reduce lighting energy consumption by 40-60%.
