What is TCO?
TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is a financial calculation determining the complete cost of an asset over its entire lifecycle – acquisition, installation, training, operation, maintenance and disposal – revealing the true cost beyond the purchase price.
Total Cost of Ownership
Technical Definition: A financial calculation determining the total cost of an asset or system over its entire lifecycle – including acquisition, installation, training, operation, maintenance and disposal. TCO analysis reveals the true cost of ownership, not just the purchase price.
Why it matters: A system with low CAPEX but high OPEX, high maintenance costs or vendor lock-in will almost always cost more over its lifetime than a system with a higher initial price but lower ongoing costs and open architecture.
HubMind’s view: We help clients model TCO scenarios before any major investment. By choosing open standards and scalable architectures, we consistently deliver lower TCO over the full asset lifecycle.
