QoS

What is QoS?

QoS (Quality of Service) is a network technology that prioritises certain traffic over others to guarantee minimum performance for critical applications – in MQTT defining three delivery guarantee levels for message reliability.

Technical Definition: A network technology that prioritises certain traffic over others to guarantee minimum performance for critical applications. In MQTT, QoS levels define how reliably a message is delivered: QoS 0 (at most once), QoS 1 (at least once), QoS 2 (exactly once).

Why it matters: QoS is a prerequisite for reliable real-time systems. In a facility network, fire alarm signals must always have higher priority than a tenant’s video stream. Without QoS, critical messages can be delayed or lost under network load.

HubMind’s view: We dimension QoS based on the criticality of each data flow. Safety-critical signals always receive QoS 2 in MQTT and traffic prioritisation at the network layer.
