What is LoRaWAN?

LoRaWAN is a network protocol for wireless communication with extremely long range and very low power consumption, ideal for battery-powered sensors transmitting small data volumes from hard-to-reach locations.

Technical Definition: A network protocol for wireless communication with extremely long range and very low power consumption. LoRaWAN is ideal for battery-powered sensors transmitting small data volumes infrequently – energy meters, leak detectors, occupancy sensors in hard-to-reach locations.

Why it matters: LoRaWAN fills the gap where cable installation is impractical and Wi-Fi is too power-hungry. In large industrial facilities or campuses, it enables cost-effective wireless monitoring of assets not covered by the wired network.

HubMind’s view: LoRaWAN is one of the most important wireless options in modern facility monitoring. We deploy it where the alternative would be expensive cable runs or battery-intensive short-range sensors.
